You have finally gotten some diamond gold jewelry, now you want to learn how to take care of it properly. Your jeweler will give you some tips, but many will tell you to bring it in for cleaning. Some jewelry stores charge for this while others will give it to you free depending on how much you spent on your jewelry piece. Of course, you want your jewelry to look like it does from the first day you purchase it until forever.

With all the everyday activities you do, the chances of getting stuff on your ring is a given. From the hair gels to lotions and cleaning the house, you will have many different chemicals touching your precious gem. Check with the jeweler and see if there was any special cleaning done to the diamond before it was set. Then you can use the same method to clean your diamond gold jewelry. If not you can always do the following.

Your best bet is to soak it in a mild detergent solution for about 15 minutes. Then take it out and use a soft brush on it for removing dirt. You do not want to use a stiff bristle because there is a chance of scratching the stone. Once you brush it, you will want to put it in a strainer or plug the drain so you do not lose it down the drain. Rinse it off completely. Checking to make sure all the dirt is gone. You may use a toothpick to get it if it is close to the setting. You then want to dry it with a lint free cloth. Some have recommended ammonia, but with time, this will cloud your diamond. It is best to stick with the mild solution. Toothpaste is also a great cleaner for diamonds, which makes it sparkle. Beware of toothpastes with granules as this can also scratch; always use one that is smooth. Eighteen-carat gold a higher does not usually tarnish from harsh chemicals. The lower grades do, using bleach, and other cleaning products could damage it. It is a good idea to wear rubber gloves or take it off while cleaning. Just put it in the storage box so you do not lose it.

If you have other stones in your ring besides diamonds, you may want to see what special cleaning they need or if you can use this same method. Watch the metals because if it is silver then you need a silver cleaner. If you want professional cleaning at home then you should purchase an ultrasonic cleaner. That is what they use in jewellry stores to give it a deep cleaning for all diamond gold jewelry.
