Is My Diamond Jewelry Rings Real?
The one thing everyone does to see if their diamond is real or not is to scratch glass. This is not the best way of doing it. You could scratch the setting of your diamond jewelry ring. Your best bet is to head to the nearest jeweler and tell them you would like to sell it. Doing it, this way will get them to quote it faster and free. They will look at it, size it, and tell you within minutes if it is real or fake. They will however quote you less than what you paid for it because they think you want them to buy it and of course, they will not pay what its worth. This will give you an idea of course to go on from there. If it is real and they quote you a selling price just tell them you have changed your mind.
Now, if you are the one buying you will receive certification papers with your diamond. If you are still leery then you can go and have an appraisal done on your own. If you are wondering about someone else’s then you can be sure that if they drive an old beat up Junker than chances are the 4-carat ring they are sporting is not real. Many celebrities of course have mega huge diamonds, which are usually real. However, they do wear fakes, especially while traveling because of muggings and theft. These days so many fakes look real it is hard to tell one way or another by looking at it.
The true test is to go and have it tested with a thermal diamond tester. Almost all of your fancy jewelry stores have one. This will tell how fast heat is conducted through the stone. Real diamonds will be fast. Then you know for sure if your diamond jewelry rings are truly real. With the newer stones being made out of moisanite or cubic zirconium will in fact cut glass because many are made of glass themselves. Therefore, that test actually is useless.
Another way to tell is to lay it on a newspaper, not the white tray the jeweler gives it to you on. If you can read the type through the diamond then it is glass. A real diamond you will not be able to read through the facets. The best one I think is the fog test. Blow on it like you would if you were cleaning your lens on your glasses. If it stays fogged for 2-4 seconds then it is a fake. Diamonds conduct heat so it would disappear almost instantly.
