Before you can really distinguish the difference with between a true diamond, a synthetic diamond, a Diamond stimulant and a diamond enhancement you must first understand what a diamond is.

A diamond is the hardest natural material known to mankind. The hardness and the high dispersion of light make it one of the best materials to be used for industrial applications and of course jewelry. Diamonds are very durable as they can only be stratched by other diamonds thus they are long lasting for whatever purpose. The old saying about diamonds cutting glass is true.

Throughout the world, there are around 130 million carats of diamonds mined in one year estimating the price cost to $9 billion US dollars.

When you are ready to purchase a diamond, you are sure to hear the words the four Cs. This is how a diamond is normally judged which stands for carat, clarity, color, and cut.

Okay, now you should understand that synthetic diamond are true diamonds only they are not mined, but created by a technological process.

A diamond stimulate is a non-diamond material that is created to simulate a true diamond.

Diamond enhancements are treatments done to true diamonds to enhance them in some way.

The demand for industrial grade diamonds has created a very large desire for rough stones. These synthetic diamonds are artificially created and they do actually have the same the natural properties of true diamonds. These synthetic type diamonds have been made for over 50 years and are now being seen more in the jewelry market than ever before.

Diamond stimulates are stones that are not synthetic diamonds or stones that have been mined. An example of a diamond stimulate is the cubic zirconia.

Diamond enhancements are used to better the characteristics of the gem such as laser drilling to remove inclusions, sealants applied to fill cracks, treatments to improve a white diamond’s color grade, and treatments to give a fancy color to a white diamond.

Now, when you look at a true diamond, a synthetic diamond or a diamond simulate you are not going to be able to see any difference at all. A true diamond and a synthetic diamond both will cut glass and all three types of diamonds will have the qualities used to judge a diamond known as the four Cs. Therefore, if you wish to rely on your own vision senses you can forget it. In some cases, your jeweler may not even be able to distinguish between a synthetic diamond and a true diamond, however he or she can let you know if your diamond is a diamond simulate like a cubic zirconia. The only real way in which to learn if the diamond is a true diamond or a synthetic diamond is to have it examined by a trained gemologist with the proper equipment.

With the improvements in technology when it comes to manufacturing before long synthetic diamonds may become impossible to differentiate from true-mined diamonds.
